What the TV exam checks
Run the suite in a dim room and again with ordinary room lighting. Sit at your normal viewing distance for motion and banding, then move closer for individual pixels.
Dead and stuck pixels
Black, white, red, green, and blue fields make non-working or permanently lit subpixels easier to spot.
Uniformity and DSE
Near-black, mid-gray, and bright fields reveal clouding, backlight bleed, vertical bands, tinting, and dirty screen effect.
Gradients and shadow detail
Grayscale steps and smooth ramps expose crushed blacks, clipped whites, posterization, and visible banding.
Motion handling
A controlled moving bar and object help reveal judder, blur, trailing, stutter, and aggressive motion processing.
Sharpness and overscan
Fine lines, edge markers, and a screen grid reveal lost edges, ringing, excessive sharpness, scaling, and cropping.
Geometry and retention
A true circle checks stretching while a checkerboard-to-gray sequence helps expose temporary or permanent image retention.
